A total of 30 more ships that use LNG as a bunker fuel were ordered last month, according to a classification society DNV on Thursday (2 June).

“Orders for LNG fuelled ships keeps coming in at a high rate and in May we added 30 more orders to our AFI platform. Also this month the growth is driven almost exclusively by containers and car carriers,” said Martin Christian Wold, principal consultant at DNV in a social media post.

“Methanol is also (literally) catching some wind with ESVAGT A/S’ order for a methanol powered SOV for windfarms!”

In a graphic accompanying the post, it read “There are currently 805 confirmed LNG-fuelled ships and 229 additional LNG ready ships.”
