The Sarawak Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Friday (16 June) said it arrested eight crew members including a Captain of a tugboat for unloading government-owned diesel oil to an unknown tanker without approval on 12 June.
The diesel oil transferred was estimated to be worth MYR 215,000 (USD 46,617) at 4am.
MMEA Sarawak director First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus said the arrest was made based on a complaint received by the Sarawak State Maritime Operations Centre.
Further investigations found the tugboat in question was operated by eight crew members, all Malaysians aged between 24 and 73 years.
They will be investigated under the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust for selling diesel oil, which is believed to belong to the Royal Malaysian Navy for hydrograpy.
