The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Monday (18 October) said its Kemaman Maritime Zone division has arrested a Port Klang registered oil tanker with its cargo of diesel on Saturday (16 October).

Director of the Maritime Zone of Kemaman, Commander Rashidilhadi bin Abd Rashid, said the vessel was arrested around 10:45 pm at 8.3 nautical miles from Kuala Kemaman.

The vessel was manned by a Captain and four crew members including Indonesians aged between 29 years to 68 years of age.

An initial investigation found the crew failing to present legal documents, including port release documents, to the maritime authorities.

The Port Klang registered vessel was turned over to the authorities while the Captain and its crew members were brought to the Kemaman Maritime Zone Pier for further examinations.

If found guilty under the Customs Act of 1967, the individuals may be fined not exceeding RM 50,000 or face an imprisonment term of not more than three years, or both.

MMEA said it will continue to monitor and implement rules and regulations to ensure the safety and security of the country’s waters.
