West Port Said Port reaches milestone with second bunkering operation

Port Said Container and Cargo Handling Co. (PSCCHC) on Sunday (23 July) said Minerva Bunkering successfully completed the second bunkering operation of West Port Said Port on 12 July. 

Suez Canal Authority, Minerva, CMA CGM, and PSCCHC coordinated the delivery of 1,750 tonnes of fuel by Minerva’s MV Kythira to MV CMA CGM MUMBAI which took eight hours. However, PSCCHC did not disclose the type of bunker fuel supplied. 

On 20 June, the first bunkering operation took place at the port when the container vessel CMA CGM MEKONG was supplied with 100 tonnes of fuel. 

“This service is among new value-added services introduced to vessels that call West Port Said Port which helps support the port’s competitive edge among competing ports,” PSCCHC said in a social media post. 

On 19 May, Manifold Times reported Egypt awarding the first licence to international companies for bunkering ships in the Egyptian ports to Minerva Bunkering.

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said Minerva would start providing its services of refuelling vessels in the Port Said, a port city located in the northeastern part of the country, on the Mediterranean Sea at the northern gate of the Suez Canal. It is the second most important harbour in Egypt. 

Later, Minerva said it was licensed to operate in Suez Canal waiting anchorages and 12 Egyptian ports, including East and West Port Said, Alexandria, Damietta, Suez, and Sokhna.
