The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has awarded China’s Sinopec Fuel Oil (Singapore) Pte. Ltd a licence to supply bunker fuel at Singapore port, making it the first new player in the world’s largest bunkering hub since April 2020.
MPA named Sinopec in its list as a licensed supplier of marine diesel oil, marine gasoil and marine fuel oil as of 1 June 2022, according to a document on MPA’s website.
With the entry of Sinopec, there are now 42 licensed bunker suppliers in Singapore.
In April 2020, Manifold Times reported MPA awarding two new bunker supplier licences to Minerva Bunkering and TFG Marine, following its call for applications for new licences in December 2019.
Manifold Times also reported Singapore keeping its position as the top bunkering port, registering total bunker sales volume of 50.04 million tonnes in 2021.
The 2021 figure comprised 49.99 million tonnes in conventional bunkers sales and 0.05 million tonnes in LNG bunker sales.
