Vietnam Coast Guard detains ships over alleged illegal cargoes

The Vietnam Coast Guard, on Sunday (29 December) detained vessel HD1591 and BV5491TS over suspicious activity in the area bordering Hai Phong – Quang Ninh and the seaport area of Vung Tau, it said.
The first vessel HD1591 was detected, inspected and detained in the Hai Phong – Quang Ninh area at 0600 hours on Sunday. Further enquiry found the captain unable to produce the papers to prove the legality of the 600 cubic meters (m3) of sand on board.
The case has been handed over to the Coast Guard Region 1 Police for further investigations.
On the same day at 1330 hours, vessel BV5491TS was found to be carrying 30m3 of diesel oil with no accompanying documents to certify the legality of the oil cargo.
As such, the vessel has been taken to the port of Vung Tau to continue investigations in accordance with the law.
